The Skilled Trades Technician (STT) ensures all plant and facility equipment associated with the successful fabrication of product is serviced and maintained in a timely manner. The STT is rresponsible for troubleshooting systems; performing preventive and predictive maintenance on all installed equipment to minimize downtime, while keeping safety and quality as a priority; and providing training and technical support to Assembly and Maintenance employees.  The STT assists in production operations, and supports Management, Area/Shift Leaders, Team Leaders, and Production employees by acting as a liaison in matters regarding automation, safety, and continuous improvement for equipment, processes and productivity.
  • Responsible for assembly, installation, modificatiton of new and existing equipment and components.
  • Troubleshoot and repair machinery and equipment efficiently and effectively, to ensure equipment run time is at the maximum of allowed time, and downtime is minimized.
  • Maintain all documentation related to equipment installation, repairs or updates, including detailed entry of work performed.
  • Perform a range of welding techniques when required.
  • Responsible for maintaining the safety standards of equipment and work area.
  • Responsible for work area, ensuring materials are labelled and stored correctly in their designated or areas.
  • Complete Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and Preventive Maintenance (PM) on all equipment per CBAM and the manufacturer specifications, within targeted deadlines.
  • Monitors and completes required Layered Process Audits (LPAs).
  • Establish and maintain effective communications/interaction with all other departments
  • Follow the escalation process.
  • Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g. Industrial Mechanic/Machinist/Electrician/Controls Tech/Robot Tech) and/or related work experience.
  • 3-5 years related automotive experience.
  • Basic knowledge of general maintenance skills, i.e. hydraulics, pneumatics, lubrication systems/procedures, tools and power tools, rigging and lifting, bearings, gearboxes, reducers, compressed air systems and chiller systems, pipefitting/plumbing, testing and troubleshooting equipment.
  • Familiarity with electrical, schematics, robotics, controls, and PLC
  • Familiarity with milled sheet metal assemblies, and mig and arc welding.
  • Familiarity with AUTOCAD, and technical drawings (blueprint reading, dimensioned drawings, etc.)
  • Ability to safely operate and maintain a lathe, mill, drill press, band saw and all other fabrication shop equipment.
  • Ability to disassemble a cylinder and replace the seals / rings.
  • Ability to perform visual, and hands-on Preventative Maintenance to fixtures, tooling and weld gun inspections.
  • Check safety devices and guarding for function                                                                                                 
  • Knowledge of all equipment locations on the plant floor                                                                                   
  • Ability and licensed to operate a forklift and aerial lift                                                                                        
  • Must be willing to be crossed trained in all skilled trade disciplines.
  • Excellent math skills with the ability to apply to costs and analyze data
  • Must be able to interact effectively with other team members.
  • Must be able to work in various locations within and outside the manufacturing lant.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts including weekend overtime with minimum supervision.
  • Physical demands include ability to lift a weight of 40 pounds; frequent bending, stooping and stretching; being able to stand for prolonged periods of time; and ability to walk for prolonged periods of time.
  • Complies with, supports and models CBAM’s operational procedures/policies, Employee Handbook, and Magna’s Employee’s Charter, Corporate Constitution, and Operational Principles.
  • Complies with relevant Quality and Environmental programs (e.g. TS16949, ISO14001).
  • Complies with all Health and Safety programs in accordance with OSHA. Follows and ensures Company procedures regarding safety rules and regulations are followed.
  • Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Conducts themselves in a professional manner.
  • Keeps work area clean and organized.

Under the general direction of the Maintenance and Facilities Manager, the Skilled Trades Technician, Trainee works independently and confers regularly with inside and outside contacts to ensure successful implementation of programs & projects. Travel may be required with occasional overnight accommodation at various locations. Overtime may be required to meet program expectations. The STT may be exposed to elements such as temperature and noise during time spent in the plant or at customer or supplier facilities.  Ability to obtain and retain a valid passport is required.
